  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000162 to IRIX 5.2.

  15.        This patch to IRIX 5.2 supports all configurations supported
  16.        by IRIX 5.2.

  21.        This patch will install on all versions of the IRIX 5.2
  22.        operating system (such as IRIX 5.2, IRIX 5.2 for Indy
  23.        R4600PC & Challenge S, IRIX 5.2 for Indy R4600SC/XZ &
  24.        Presenter, IRIX 5.2 for Onyx LE, etc.)

  29.        This patch contains fixes for the following problems which
  30.        exist in IRIX 5.2 (bug numbers from SGI bug tracking system
  31.        are included for reference):

  33.           +o Bug #209400, The ftpd (File Transfer Protocol Daemon)
  34.             in IRIX 5.2 crashes fairly easily.

  37.        5.  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__i_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s

  40.        Patches are not installed by default since it is unknown
  41.        which patches address the problems you have encountered.
  42.        After reading the release notes describing the bugs fixed,
  43.        determine the set of patches which meet your specific needs.
  44.        Patches are installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  45.        product.  Use your Owner's Guide and/or Software
  46.        Installation Guide to bring up the "miniroot" form of the
  47.        software installation tools.  To select a patch for
  48.        installation type:

  50.           Inst> install patchSGxxxxxxx
  51.  
  52.        where "xxxxxxx" is the patch number.  After selecting the
  53.        desired patches for installation, type "go" to initiate the
  54.        installation sequence.

  58.        After completion of the installation process, type "quit" to

  78.        You may find that two patches have been marked as
  79.        incompatible.  If this occurs, you must unselect one of the
  80.        patches.

  84.        Ultimately you may decide after installing a patch that you
  85.        no longer want it.  To remove a patch use "versions remove"
  86.        as you would any other software subsystem.  The removal
  87.        process will reinstate the original version of software
  88.        unless you have purposefully removed the patch history from
  89.        your system.

  93.        If you are confident that you will not need to remove a
  94.        particular patch and wish to regain the disk space, use
  95.        "versions removehist" to remove the patch history.
